My core passion and research focus on understanding and addressing the growing challenge of digital addiction in individuals, families and communities.

Prof. Anke de Beer is co-founder and CEO of ReBOOT and a Director on its board. She will serve as Executive Officer of the ReBOOT TechBalance and Wellness Institute.
She achieved her first Doctor of Philosophy in Theology from St Clements Private Swiss University in 2012, with a thesis titled “Exegetical Interpretation of Fantasy Role Playing Games as a Catechism of the Occult.” Recently, she completed a second PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies at Commonwealth University in 2023. Her research is titled: “Multifaceted Approach to the Problem of Internet Addiction: The Repercussions, Causes, and Restoration.”
Throughout her career, Anke has received numerous accolades, including the Collin le Cornu Award for outstanding student achievements in the same year.
Anke’s professional journey is marked by significant appointments. Since 2020, she has been the Director of Research and Development at the South African Higher Christian Education Trust. In 2023, she joined the Academic Council of the Horn Training Group.
Anke is also an active member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), where she has been a keynote speaker and workshop presenter at various conferences in Southern Africa since 2019. Her presentations cover a wide range of topics, including digital safety for children, interpreting children’s drawings, cyberbullying, the impact of pornography, childhood identity theft, gaming dilemmas, gender identity issues, and trauma support for children.
Anke’s teaching experience is extensive. From 2003 to 2013, she was involved with RÂDÂH Ministries and Bible School, where she developed course material, lectured, graded, and revised syllabi to meet accreditation standards. From 2018 to 2021, she served as Vice Dean at Truth Foundation Bible School in Brits, NW, where she lectured and revised the syllabus to meet accreditation standards for Team Impact Christian University, USA. Her innovative teaching approaches and clarity of instruction received positive feedback from students and faculty alike. Since 2022, has advised and supervised bachelor’s and doctoral students at the Horn Training Group.
Anke has authored several publications, including “The Digital Dilemma: Restoring Wholeness in Spirit, Soul, and Body” (2022) which she co-authored with her husband, Eldred. In 2024 she wrote “Jamie se nuwe maat” (translated as Jamie’s new friend) which was translated to English in the same year. She also contributed a chapter titled “A study of internet-facilitated violence in Africa during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in sub-Saharan Africa” to the book “Young people, violence and Strategic Interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa” (2023), co-authored with Fawole Adebola. Additionally, she has a journal paper in review, “Teaching from a Biblical Foundation: Rethinking Biblical Integration in Christian Education,” co-authored with Fawole Adebola. and submitted to the Journal of Research on Christian Education.
Anke has presented at numerous conferences, including the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (translated: South African academy for Arts and Science) in Pretoria in 2018, the Eurasia Conference in London in 2023, and the International Conference on Internet Addiction in Bangkok in 2019. She currently presents workshops on digital addiction and its effects on mankind at schools, churches, youth gatherings, family camps, and online meetings. She is busy with the first pilot-study in Africa, in collaboration with Kenya, Zimbabwe and Botswana on the effects of digital technologies on the children in Africa.
Her professional training includes workshops on Trauma Incident Reduction (TIR) in 2019 and advanced play therapy courses from Red Shoe Play Therapy in 2023. Anke has also been featured in radio and TV interviews on topics related to Internet Addiction Disorder, with appearances on local radio stations and TV programs like GrootOntbyt (Big Breakfast) in 2022 and 2024 following her book releases.
