Study Skills
Optimising Learning in a Digital Age In today’s interconnected world, effective study skills go hand-in-hand with smart digital habits. This section offers practical advice for students to leverage technology for learning while minimizing distractions, managing their time effectively, and conducting online research efficiently, relevant to the South African educational context.
Below is an overview of the course content and structure:
Learning as a skill & my child in a digital world
Learning is a skill that can be developed with practice. This session focuses on strategies, techniques, and tips that help learners improve their performance. We also look at the role of behaviour in the learning process. Understanding your child’s developmental stage and environment helps create a more realistic and supportive daily routine. Stronger family connections boost motivation and help overcome challenges such as anxiety, emotional outbursts, and low self confidence.
Learning takes place within the context of real life. The better this context is understood, the more effective the learning becomes.
Critical thinking
Critical thinking is the ability to analyse and evaluate information logically and objectively before forming a conclusion. This session encourages learners to think independently and purposefully putting themselves in the shoes of the teacher.
This session includes:
- Essay writing
- Comprehension tests (Read-with-Comprehension)
- Listening exercises
We apply the fundamental questioning techniques: who, what, where, when, and how.
Learning preference & practical subjects
This session explores how learners best absorb and retain information based on their personal learning style. Topics include:
- The senses as tools of perception
- Identifying individual learning preferences
- Understanding different learning styles
- Creating a learning routine based on preference
Approaching practical subjects (such as Mathematics) with confidence and strategy.
